The CULTURE OF CARE program is a combination of expert training and consultation designed to assist churches in promoting safety for children and supporting victims of abuse, assault, and exploitation. This program includes a full-day, three-part training, a policy review, and two phone consultations.

SEEING THE SIGNS: HOW TO RECOGNIZE AND RESPOND TO CHILD ABUSE
This section is open to all individuals in the community, congregation, and staff.
The entire staff, congregation, and community can benefit from this initial training in the Culture of Care program. The training includes information about the signs and symptoms of child sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, online exploitation, and other types of maltreatment. Special consideration is given the dynamics of child sexual abuse, especially to the importance of issues like grooming and accommodation. This training also covers reporting abuse and fielding disclosures. The information in this two-hour, in-person training is foundational to child protection policies and procedures in a church.

BEYOND BACKGROUNDS: POLICIES THAT PROTECT CHILDREN AND PROMOTE SAFETY
This workshop provides an in-depth look at child protection policies for church leadership and key staff. Creative policies regarding supervision, communication, and education promote transparency and safety in the culture of the church. This training includes a Sample Policy and access to a bank of helpful resources. During this training, it is the intention of the trainers to engage in in-depth policy discussions and problem solving with church leadership and staff. This training provides an in-depth look at child protection policies for church leadership and key staff. TRAUMA-INFORMED CHURCH: PROVIDING SAFETY AND SUPPORT TO SURVIVORS OF TRAUMA
Trauma-informed care, or a trauma-informed church, seeks to avoid re-traumatization and support survivors’ recovery through creating physically, psychologically, and emotionally safe spaces. This training explores the impact of trauma on the brain and behavior, typical traumatic reactions and coping, and suggestions of how to implement trauma-informed principles.
